Almetris Duren Hall
My first picture at The University of Texas at Austin was in front of Almetris Duren Residence Hall. Duren Hall has 588 beds in double occupancy rooms with private bathrooms. There are a rich variety of social spaces throughout the building: a courtyard, a laundry, a game room, an exercise room, and study lounges on each floor. The name of this Residence Hall is Almetris Duren, known as "Mama Duren" (1910 - 2000) because she was a very important woman for the UT students, mainly African American students. She was a mentor, counselor, adviser and inspiration to young people for four decades. The students had her, as a really mama, she took care the students with caring and helped to save their needs. She fought by the UT students' rights, mainly to facilitate their acess to the dorms at Ut campus. https://centerbrook.com/project/university_of_texas_at_austin_almetris_duren_residence_hall
