UT at night

Image
Last Wednesday, on July 31st, at 9:30 p.m. my friends and I went to Math, Physics and Astrology Building, this is the highest bulding at the University of Texas at Austin (t he building was completed in 1972) . It has seventeen floors. On this bulding there is a big telescope, we went there to observe the stars, but we can just see two stars. On the other hand, the view  from UT  was wonderful. We can't see many stars but we saw Ut shine.

Latin American Colletion Building.

Image
On Sunday evening, during my walking I found a very huge building, it really impressed me with its size. I think it is the biggest bulding of the UT. It is The Institute of Latin American Studies and Collection, it is near the LBJ Library and Museum buiding, that is huge too. There is a big monument in front of The Institute of Latin American Studies and Collection building, it is The San Lorenzo Monument, a replica of an Olmec colossal head of ancient Mesoamerica. https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/llilas/news/olmec-head-sculpture-donated-to-llilas

Littlefield Fountain.

Image
Littlefield Fountain is more one beautiful campus landmark. The fountain is an iconic spot for graduation photos. It was completed in 1933, the monument is named after university regent and benefactor George W. Littlefield, whose donation paid for its design and construction.  It is originally dedicated as a memorial to honor Confederate  soldiers of the World War I. There was a legend, "the graduates swim in the fountain", the first time it happened at midnight, nowadays it is prohibited, and if someone swims in the fountain they can pay a fee. https://thedailytexan.com/2018/09/27/students-jump-onto-littlefield-fountain-hopping-tradition/

Texas Exes Alumni Center next to Texas Cowboys Pavilion

Image
Texas Exes Alumni Center is flanked by the football stadium on one side and a creek on the other side. It is an area for pre- and post-game events, lectures, presentations, and exhibits, as well as an area for students to enjoy during school days. This area is a simple, light steel structure that contrasts with the massive concrete structure of the football stadium across the street. Its building was completed in October 2004. The Cowboys organization usually donates time and funds to UT Elementary School. In the courtyard of Texas Cowboys Pavilion, there is a sculpture, called "Hope", it shows Nancy, a mother (graduate of the University of Texas at Austin) reading a passage of the Bible among her children Emily and Robby and the family's dog, the hope shines through her eyes even in her last days while battles cancer. It is very meaningfull sculpture, mainly when you are far from your children like me. It reminds me the mother's love and the need we be strong to ov...

Almetris Duren Hall

Image
My first picture at The University of Texas at Austin was in front of Almetris Duren Residence Hall. Duren Hall has 588 beds in double occupancy rooms with private bathrooms. There are a rich variety of social spaces throughout the building: a courtyard, a laundry, a game room, an exercise room, and study lounges on each floor.  The name of this Residence Hall is Almetris Duren, known as "Mama Duren" (1910 - 2000) because she was a very important woman for the UT students, mainly African American students.  She was a mentor, counselor, adviser and inspiration to young people for four decades. The students had her, as a really mama, she took care the students with caring and helped to save their needs. She fought by the UT students' rights, mainly to facilitate their acess to the dorms at Ut campus.  https://centerbrook.com/project/university_of_texas_at_austin_almetris_duren_residence_hall

UT Tower.

Image
At the center of the University of Texas at Austin Campus there is an amazing buiding called "The Main Building" or 'The Tower". It is the most recognizable symbols of the University of Texas and Austin city. The tower has 94 metters and 27 floors. It started to be built in 1934 and it was completed in 1937.  It is in the middle of the most ancient buldings. In front of The Tower happens big events. Now, there are administrative offices, a life sciences library and a library with significant editions of English Romanticists. Curious and bad happenings marked The Tower history. In 1966 an architectural engineering student at the University, went up the observation deck of the tower and using a rifle and various other weapons killed 14 people. And in 1974 happened nine suicide jumps from The tower's observation deck. Before this tower, there was another, it was an old Victorian-Gothic building and it was built in 1882. But it was razed in 1934, due to it needs for ...
